The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) is a national organization that owns profound experience in the delivery of a wide range of reproductive health services. Established in 1966 as a non-government, not-for-profit, voluntary organization, the Association has gone through series of institutional development stages to assume its present status of wider national significance and recognition at the international level.
FGAE’s program activities and services, which were limited to the country’s capital city – Addis Ababa – during its formative years, are now widely spread all over the country creating a network of 8 branches, 18 clinics, 26 youth centers, 740 community-based reproductive health service outlets, 242 outreach sites, 6 marketplace and 8 workplace sites run with the active involvement of its 513 paid staff, 1740 voluntary service providers and over 7,000 members.
VISION
FGAE envisages an Ethiopian society where all people, particularly young people have the right to and enjoy full quality sexual and reproductive health.
MISSION
FGAE is an autonomous, not-for-profit, non-partisan and non-discriminatory national NGO that is committed to:
- Play a leadership and catalytic role in increasing access to quality and youth friendly sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services with a specific emphasis on the prevention and management of STI, HIV/AIDS, unwanted pregnancies and unsafe abortion;
- Increase access to quality family planning (FP) information and services;
- Advocate for safe motherhood and the elimination of harmful traditional practices (HTP and gender-based violence (GBV);
- Work in partnership with our volunteers, local communities, the Government and SRHR agencies to provide and sustain quality SRHR programs nation wide.
- Become a center of excellence in evidence-based SRHR information and service provision, capacity building and documentation and dissemination of best practices.
